29 Jul 2010 : A Real Team Effort
A nice warm day brought our old friends Capricorn down to Brickfield Road on Sunday.
Our leader lost the toss and we were put in the field on a new greenish wicket and, due to Graham's lateness Flash opened up with Alan. They reduced Capricorn to 59 for 6 andf everything was looking good. In the next hour or so though things went seriously awry with the ball flying to all parts and the score racing along to 200 for 6. Graham came on and although they continued to score quickly he picked up the last 4 wickets and Capricorn finished on 242 all out. Tony 4-80, Alan 2 for 30(ish) and Graham 4-34. A big ask given our batting form this year but the wicket was good and the outfield like lightning - also Capricorn are not known for their great fielding......(either).
Mick opened up with Gus and they put on a steady 18 before Gus was well caught in the slips. Mick continued to bat nicely and Mark blugeoned a quick 30 odd before being bowled. Enter Jason in determined fashion, he weathered the early storm and gradually found the middle of the bat. Mick was out for a fine 55 and Graham joined Jason. We were staying more or less with the rate with hard running and boundaries but Jason skied and long hop on about 35 and was caught. Graham continued to grinf it out while Alan got over his early nerves and started to play some lovely shots. As we got nearer the target, Capricorn were starting to look desperate. Alan playing the big shots and Graham finding the gaps in the field. Needing 20 off the last 3 overs Alan looked determined to finish it in style and reduced the target to jut 6 from the last 2. A four and single from Graham and the scores were level. Aln went for the big finish and somehow inside edged the ball on to the stumps but had made an excellent 36 by then and Graham (70no) finished it off with a boundary off the first ball of the next over.

Great contributions from the top order and a successful chase of nearly 250. We just need to continue the good work with the bat for the rest of the season.
