Coopersale CC 1st XI v Craven on Sun 23 Jun 2013 at 2.00
Coopersale CC Won By 28 runs

Match report What a game against our old rivals Craven. Having been told by the oppo captain that his side would be lucky to get 80 runs based on previous results this season, I was talked into batting first. Steve and jack ( I'm trying to do my best to look like a chicken) strode out to open. Jack didn't last long though and was replaced by Hank. It must be said that their opening bowlers were doing a great job particularly Melvin who was bowling a good length and moving it in at a decent pace. Hank started slowly but was plugging on. Steve was out LBW and was replaced by his brother Mark. Both Hank and Mark steadied the ship with a partnership of 98 before both were out for 74 and 41 respectively. And it was long before our last few batsmen were out having to face a rested Melvin. But Colin remained iuninjured and with Paul ,not out after our time ran out.

After a lovely tea prepared by Becky, it was our turn to take the field. And bugger me was it hard!! Due to the conditions,I opened from Hanks normal end and Hank opened from Flashes end. And paid dividends quickly with Hank snapping up 2 quick wickets and myself 1. The oppo were 35 for 3.Enter their skipper Mark who got off slowly but then started to open up. Hank grabbed another wicket ( 53 for 4 ) and their skipper was joined at the crease by Melvin. Both decided to go after our total and although a little fortunate Mark went on to score 55 before being cleaned up by Hank ( 102 for 5 ). Melvin was still being a pain and having bowled 14 overs without a break I decided it was time for me to come off ( we were really short of bowling this week. And whenever I thought about changing to our slower bowlers, I couldn't for fear of giving the runs away to two batsmen who hitting boundries with ease.) Enter from my end Steve Rynn. He manged to bowl Melvin and between Steve and and an unrested Hank, the oppo collapsed 23 runs short of the target. Great end to the game and a big thank you to all who played. The fielding was very good and we missed very few chances which was good to see. Well done Hank for bowling so well unchanged. Although we only had to get 10 batsmen out, with our lack of could easily have gone the other way, so well done all!!!
